Hi, I'm Soumya Chatterjee, a passionate motorcycle traveler from Kharagpur, West Bengal. After leaving my job in Bangalore in 2016, I began exploring India on my Royal Enfield Himalayan 411. Since then, I’ve ridden over 2 lakh kilometers, traversing the stunning landscapes of Ladakh, Kashmir, Rajasthan, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, and many other regions.
My love for travel and adventure inspired me to create Nature Moto, a platform where I share my motorcycle journeys through vlogs. I create content in Hindi to connect with a wider audience, bringing authentic stories of the open road, gear reviews, and practical travel tips to fellow riders and enthusiasts.
Through my YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook channels, I aim to inspire people of all ages to embrace travel, experience the thrill of adventure, and discover new places. Whether you're a seasoned rider or someone looking to start their journey, I welcome you to join me on this exciting ride!
Let's hit the road together and make unforgettable memories!
My Hometown
Welcome to Kharagpur: Where History Meets Modernity!
Nestled 120 km west of Kolkata, Kharagpur is not your typical city—it’s a fascinating blend of industrial hustle, academic excellence, and rich history. Famous for housing the prestigious IIT Kharagpur, the oldest and largest of the Indian Institutes of Technology, this city is where innovation and tradition coexist. But wait, there's more!
Did you know that Kharagpur Junction boasts the fourth-longest railway platform in the world? Stretching over a kilometer (1,072.5 meters to be exact), you’ll need a good pair of shoes if you plan on exploring the entire platform!
A Journey Through Time
Long before Kharagpur became an industrial and educational hub, it was part of the Hijli Kingdom, ruled by Hindu Odia rulers. It wasn't always bustling with factories and trains—back in the 16th century, it was just a small village surrounded by dense forests and rocky land. The only sign of civilization nearby was Hijli, a small island port town, which was quite the business hub back in the day!
Hijli was ruled by dynasties like the Kushan, Gupta, Pal, and later, the Mughals. This place had everything—trade centers, judiciary offices, and even a prison! During the British colonial era, the region played a part in the East India Company's entry into India, with Job Charnock leading the charge. However, the British couldn’t hold on to Hijli for long and moved on, leaving behind a rich legacy.
A Modern Hub with Roots in the Past
Fast forward to today, and Kharagpur has evolved into a major industrial city. Home to one of India’s largest railway workshops, it’s a key player in the country's railway network. But despite its modern trappings, you can still feel the echoes of history in every corner of this vibrant city. From its Mallabhum origins to its pivotal role in the British Raj, Kharagpur is a place where the past and present meet in fascinating ways.
So whether you’re a train enthusiast, a history buff, or just someone looking to explore a city where innovation is as much a part of the landscape as tradition, Kharagpur has something for everyone!
